From work energy theorem
Work = Change in kinetic energy
= K.E₂ - K.E₁
= 0.5m (v₂² - v₁²)
= 0.5 × 3000 kg × [ (0 m/s)² - (72 × 5/18 m/s)² ]
= -600 × 10³ J
= -600 kJ
[Here negative sign indicates that work is done against the motion of train]
∴ -600 kJ of work is done by force to stop the truck.
