The refractive index of the liquid is 1.7.

Explanation:

To calculate the refractive index use the formula as

\mu=\frac{R}{A}

Here, R is the real depth and A is the apperent depth.

Given the real depth of water in bucket is R = 30 cm.

The apparent depth of water in bucket A = (30 cm - 12 cm ) = 18 cm.

substitute these values in above formula, we get

\mu=\frac{30cm}{18cm}

\mu=1.66=1.7.

Thus, the refractive index of the liquid is 1.7.
