The width of the 57 m long lane which is paved with bricks of size 20 cm x 15 cm is 21 m.

Explanation:

Step 1:

The total cost of the bricks = Rs. 89.775

The rate of bricks is given as Rs. 2.250 per thousand

The no. of bricks used for paving the lane is,

= [89.775/2.250] * 1000

= 39900

Step 2:

The dimension of each brick:

Length, l = 20 cm

Breadth, b = 15 cm

Area of each brick = l * b = 20 * 15 = 300 cm²

The total area of the lane made with 39900 bricks will be,

= 300 cm² * 39900

= 11,970,000 cm²

= 1197 m²

Step 3:

The length of the lane = 57 m

Let the width of the lane be “x” m

Therefore,  we have

The area of the lane = 57 * x

⇒ 1197 = 57 * x

x = 21 m

Thus, the width of the lane is 21 m.
