Given :

Mass of first body , M = 6 kg .

After collision they travel together with the velocity one third the velocity is of 6 kg mass .

To Find :

The mass of second body .

Solution :

Let initial velocity of body M is v .

Let mass of second object is m .

So , final velocity of both the body is \dfrac{v}{3} .

Since , no external force is applied .

So , momentum will be conserved .

P_i=P_f \\\\Mv+m\times 0=\dfrac{Mv}{3}+\dfrac{mv}{3}\\\\6v=2v+\dfrac{mv}{3}\\\\m=12 kg

Therefore , mass of second object is 12 kg .

Hence , this is the required solution .
