The most unique feature of Indias freedom movement was that it was spear headed by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. His main amminition was non-violent civil disobedience. Gandhi led campaigns for reducing poverty , expanding womens' rights, ending untouchability. Above all these campagns was his campaign of achieving SWARAJ or self rule.
He led Indians in challenging the British imposed salt tax and later in 1942 he raised the QUIT INDIA movement. He undertook long fasts as a means of self-purification and social unrest.
