number of days one has taken food in the mess. When a student A takes food for
20 days she has to pay ? 1000 as hostel charges whereas a student B, who takes
food for 26 days, pays ? 1180 as hostel charges. Find the fixed charges and the

Answer:

Fixed charge = ₹400

Cost of food per day = ₹30

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the fixed charges be x

Let the daily charges be y

The total charges will be the fixed charge (x) + the daily charge (y) × the number of days

For 20 days, the total charges will be x + 20y

x + 20y = 1000

Fir 26 days, the total charges will be x + 26y

x + 26y = 1180

Subtracting the first equation from the second, we get

6y = 180

y = 30

The daily charges are 30

Putting this value in one of the above equations,

x + 20×30 = 1000

x + 600 = 1000

x = 400

So the fixed charge is 400
