let the ages of a and b be X and y then..
 \frac{x - 2}{y - 2}  =  \frac{5}{6}
and
 \frac{x}{y}  =  \frac{6}{7}
so,
6x - 12 = 5y - 10 \\ 6x - 5y = 2
and
7x - 6y = 0
on solving both the equations..
we get
X=12 and
Y=14..

hope it helped..:-):-):-):-):-)

Step-by-step explanation: let the present ages of a and b be x and y.

x-2/y-2 = 5/6

6x-12 = 5y-10

6x-5y = -10+12

6x-5y = 2. -------------(1)

x/y = 6/7

7x = 6y

x = 6y/7. -----------(2)

Putting (2) in (1),

6(6y/7)-5y = 2

36y/7 -5y = 2

36y-35y/7 = 2. (LCM)

y/7 = 2

y = 14 years.

x/14 = 6/7

x = 6*14/7

x = 12 years.

⇒present age of a = 12 years

present age of b = 14 years.
