Answer:

A and B can do a piece of work in 6 days and 4 days respectively. A started the work; worked at it for 2 days and then was joined by B. What is the total time taken to complete the work?

A can do the work in 6 days

A in 1 day can finish 1/6 th of the work

In 2 days A would have finished 2 x 1/6 = 1/3 Of the work

Remaining work to be completed: 2/ 3 of the work

B in 1 day can finish 1/4 th of the work

A & B in 1 day can finish 1/4 + 1/6 = 5/12 work

5/12 Of the work can be completed by A and B in 1 day

2/3rd of the work to be completed :— 2/3 x 12/5 = 8/5 days

1/3 rd of the work earlier by A alone :— 2 days

Total time taken to complete the work:— 2 + 8/5 days = 3 1/6 days
