The ratio of distance covered by A and B is 1 : 3

Solution:

Given, A and B start running simultaneously from the same point on a circular track with speed 5 metre per second and 15 metre per second respectively

They are running in the opposite direction

We have to find the ratio of the distance covered by them still their meeting.

Now, we know that, distance = speed x time.

Let, the time take to meet each other be t.

Now, distance covered by A = speed of A x time taken by A

Distance covered by A = 5 m/s x t.

Now, distance covered by B = speed of B x time taken by B

Distance covered by B = 15 m/s x t.

Here we took same time for A and B because, frame of reference is same for both runners.

Now, ratio of distance covered = distance covered by A : distance covered by B

= 5 x t : 15 x t [cancel common term t]

= 5 : 15  [ cancel common term 5]

= 1 : 3

Hence, ratio  of distance covered by A and B is 1 : 3.
