(A) Aniline is less basic than alkylamine. Explain by giving one chemical reaction.
(B) Identify and write chemical formula of A and B in the following sequence of chemical reaction.
Answers
Answer:
Aniline is less basic than alkylamine because in aniline phenyl group is directly linked with nitrogen atom which has electron withdrawing inductive effect due to resonance effect. As a result available lone pair of electrons on nitrogen disappears and becomes positively charged.
While in alkylamine there is a lone pair of electrons on nitrogen of primary amine group which can donate a proton therefore it is a base. ethyl group is directly linked with nitrogen atom . It has electron realising inductive effect therefore it increases the electron density of nitrogen atom and hence lone pair of nitrogen can be easily donated therefore it is stronger base than aniline i.e aniline is less basic than alkylamine.
