EXPLANATION.

⇒ a + b = 5. - - - - - (1).

⇒ ab = 3. - - - - - (2).

As we know that,

Formula of :

⇒ (x - y)² = x² + y² - 2xy.

⇒ (x² + y²) = (x + y)² - 2xy.

Using this formula in the equation, we get.

⇒ (a - b)² = a² + b² - 2ab.

⇒ (a - b)² = (a + b)² - 2ab - 2ab.

⇒ (a - b)² = (a + b)² - 4ab.

Put the values in the equation, we get.

⇒ (a - b)² = (5)² - 4(3).

⇒ (a - b)² = 25 - 12.

⇒ (a - b)² = 13.

(a - b) = √13.
