squaring equation 1 on both sides

(a+b)²=7²

a²+2ab+b²=49

But given ab=12

a²+b²+2*12=49

a²+b²=49-12

a²+b²=37

Now,

=a²-ab+b²

=a²+b²-ab

=37-12

=25


So, a²-ab+b²=25
