HI MATE YOUR ANSWER IS HERE:

(a+b) = 9

squaring both of sides,

(a+b)^2 = 9^2

a^2 + b^2 + 2ab= 81

a^+b^2 = 81-2×12

a^2+b^2 = 81-24 = 57

a^2+b^2 = 57.......(1)

(a-b) = √(a-b)^2

= √a^2+b^2-2ab

putting the value of a^2+b^2 from equation (1),

(a-b)= √57-2×12=√57-24

(a-b) = √33

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU ✌️
