Given that,

a+b=6………………………………..(1)

a-b=4…………………………………(2)

Adding equation (1) and (2),we get,

(a+b)+(a-b)=10

=> a+b+a-b=10

=> 2a=10

=> 2a/2=10/2

=> a=5

Putting a=5 in equation (1),we get,

5+b=6

=> b=6–5

=> b=1

Actually ( a-b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2 substitute in above formula we can get the answer.
