This is known as test tube baby or IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation). This procedure includes collecting freshly released sperm and eggs and keeping it together to form zygote for a specific period of time. After the zygote is formed, or the egg has fertilised, it is implanted in the woman's uterus.
The disadvantages are of this procedure is: It can result in more than one birth, i.e., twins can also take birth. It can lead to Ectopic pregnancy in which the pregnancy occurs outside the uterus. IVF success rates are much lower than 100%. IVF success rate depends on age of female, quality of eggs, quality of sperms, quality of uterus etc. The success rate decrease with the age of female partner. The average success rate is 25 to 30%. The drugs and hormones used during the ivf procedure can be painful. It is very costly.
