A bag contains 8 red balls and x blue balls. The ratio of the probability of getting a red ball against blue ball is 2:5. Find the number of blue balls.

The ratio of  getting a red ball against a blue ball = 2:5

To Find,

Blue balls in the bag.

Solution,

Given that,

8 red and x balls are there.

Therefore,

The total count of balls in the bag =

8+x.

The ratio of the probability of red against blue =

2:5

\frac{Number of red balls}{Number of blue balls} = \frac{2}{5}

\frac{2}{5}   =  \frac{8}{x}

Then find the value of x from this equation.

x = \frac{8*5}{2}

x = 40/ 2

x =20.

Another method,

2:5 means for every 2red balls 5 blue balls are drawn.

Therefore,

for every one ball 5/2 blue balls.

And every 8 red balls (5/2)*8 blue balls.

(5/2)*8 = 20

Hence the number of blue balls in a bag is 20.
