Given:

A bag contains coins of denominations of Rs.5 and Rs.2. The total value of these coins is Rs. 1272. Also, the number of two rupees coins is 15% of the five rupee coins.

To find:

The number of coins of each denomination.

Solution:

The number of Rs. 5 coins is 240 and the number of Rs. 2 coins is 36.

Let the number of coins of Rs. 5 be x.

So, according to the question,

The number of coins of Rs. 2

 =  \frac{15}{100} x

 =  \frac{3}{20} x

Now,

The total value of coins = Rs. 1272

So,

5(x )+ 2( \frac{3}{20} x)  = 1272

This can be written as

5x +  \frac{3}{10}  x= 1272

Now, on taking 10 as LCM, we have

 \frac{50x + 3x}{10}  = 1272

53x = 12720

x = 240

So,

The number of coins of Rs. 2

 =  \frac{3}{20} (240)

 = 3 \times 12

 = 36

Hence, the number of Rs. 5 and Rs. 2 coins is 240 and 36 respectively.
