Bag contains marbles = 80

Red marbles = 25

Yellow marbles = 35

Black marbles = 80-25-35 = 20

Probability of red and black marbles = 25+20/80

=55/80

=11/16

So you will get 11 marbles other than yellow in every 16 times you pick up marble

Given

A bag has 80 marbles, if 25 are red 35 are yellow and rest are black, find the probability of yellow marbles, black marbles and other than yellow.

To find

The probability of getting yellow and black marbles and marbles other than yellow.

Solution

Number of total marbles the bag has = 80

Number of red marbles = 25

Number of yellow marbles = 35

Number of black marbles = (total number of marbles) - [number of red marbles + number of yellow marbles]

                                           = 80 - (25+35)

                                           = 80 - 60

                                           = 20

The formula to find probability is :

\frac{Number \: of \:favourable \: outcomes }{Total \: number \: of \: possible \: outcomes}

So , the probability of getting yellow marbles = \frac{ 35 }{80} = \frac{ 7 }{16}

The probability of getting black marbles = \frac{ 20 }{80} = \frac{ 1 }{4}

The probability of getting marbles other than yellow (red and black) = \frac{25 +20 }{80} = \frac{ 45 }{80} = \frac{ 9 }{16}

Hence,

  • The probability of getting yellow marbles is \frac{ 7 }{16} .
  • The probability of getting black marbles is  \frac{ 1 }{4} .
  • The probability of getting marbles other than yellow is \frac{ 9 }{16} .
