Since the velocity has increased after upward projection, it is clear that the ball is on its way towards the ground and that gravity has added up to that velocity. Therefore, by the sign conventions, the final velocity is negative; so is the acceleration due to gravity. The initial velocity, on the other hand, is positive.
Thus, I substitute the values to the equation "v = u +- at"

v = u - gt
-1.25u = u - gt
gt = 2.25u
u = 30/2.25
   = 3000/225
   = 13.33 units/sec
