Max. height (s) = 180 m
Acceleration (a) = -g = -9.8 m/s^2
[-ve since, displacement and acceleration aren't in the same direction]
At max. height, velocity (v) = 0 m/s
[since, the ball travels no further]
v^2 - u^2 = 2as
(0)^2 - u^2 = 2 × - 9.8 × 180
- u^2 = - 2 × 9.8 × 180 [-ve sign cancels out]
u^2 = 2×9.8×180
u^2 = 3528
u = 59.4 m/s
Therefore, initial speed is 59.4 m/s.
