when the train moved with the constant velocity at the moment a ball was thrown. Due to inertia of motion, the ball was in motion along with the person and the train. so the remaining time ball is in the air, then both the person and the ball move ahead in the same period. Thus the ball returns exactly into the hands.

Therefore, the ball will (c) return back to the thrower.
