a). v²-u²=2gs
0²-(39.2)²=2 x 9.8 x S
-(39.2)²=19.6 x S
1536.64=19.6 x S
1536.64/19.6=S
S= 78.4

b). v = u+gt
= 39.2+(9.8) x t
t=49

Hope it helps you...
