A ball is thrown vertically upwards from the top of a tower 80m high and reach the ground in 6 seconds find the velocity with which the ball is thrown​

Final velocity= 0 (it becomes zero as the ball reaches its highest point)

Acceleration due to gravity= -9.8 m/s^2

Height of the tower= 80 m

Time = 6 s

We have to find initial velocity.

If it would have been given the height of the ball's highest point then only we would have used 80 m to find initial velocity. But in this case here, there is no need of the height of the tower. Thus, we don't have to use it. And in questions sometimes there are extra things given to confuse you but you don't have to.

Let the initial velocity be u.

v = u + gt

=> 0 = u + (-9.8) × 6

=> 0 = u + (-58.8)

=> 0 = u - 58.8

=> 58.8 = u

Thus, the initial velocity is 58.8 m/s.
