H = 1/2 a t^2       height balloon reaches when stone is released

H = 1/2 * 1.25 * 10^2 = 62.5 m

V = a t = 1.25 * 10 = 12.5 m/s     upward speed of stone when released

S = -H = V T - 1/2 g t^2     taking up as positive direction

-62.5 = 12.5 T - 1/2 g T^2

4.9 T^2 - 12.5 T - 62.5 = 0

T = 5.1 sec      solving quadratic for T
