A batsman deflects a ball by an angle 45 degrees without changing its initial speed which is equal to 54 km/hr . what is the impulse imparted to the ball? Mass of the ball is 0.15kg.

Given , initial speed(u) = 54×5/18m/s = 15 m/s
Final speed(v) will be 15cos45° = 15/√2 ≈ 10.61 m/s
Mass of the ball = .15 Kg
We know , Impulse = ∆P
Here , P = momentum
Impulse = Final momentum - Initial momentum
= mv - mu = m(v-u)
= .15 ( 10-15.61) = -0.8415
|Impulse| = 0.8415 Kg.m/s
