Given :

A battery connected to a resistor supplies a current of 4A.

To Find :

Current flow in circuit when another resistor of same resistance is connected in parallel to the first resistor.

Solution :

■ As per ohm's law, current flow in circuit is directly proportional to the applied potential difference at constant temperature.

Mathematically, [V = I × R]

  • V denotes voltage
  • I denotes current
  • R denotes resistance

Let a resistor of R Ω is connected across a battery of voltage V.

➠ V = I × R ......... (I)

Another resistor of same resistance is now connected in parallel.

Therefore equivalent resistance will be R/2.

➠ V = I' × R/2 ........ (II)

By equating both equations;

⭆ I × R = I' × R/2

⭆ 4 = I' / 2

I' = 8 A
