a battery of 10 cells each of emf E=1.5v and internal resistance 0.5ohm, has one cell wrongly connected.it is being charged by 220v power supply with an external resistance of 47 ohm in series.the potential difference across the battery

V = 32 V

◆ Explanation -

Total EMF of all cells is -

E = 1.5×9 - 1.5

E = 12 V

Current flowing through the conductor is -

I = (220 + 10×1.5) / 47

I = 235 / 47

I = 5 A

Resistance of battery is -

r = 0.5 × 9 - 0.5

r = 4 ohm

So now, potential difference across the battery is -

V = E + Ir

V = 12 + 5×4

V = 32 V

Hence, potential difference across the battery is 32 V.
