Sn = u + a(2n - 1)/2
35 m = u + a(7)/2
u + 3.5a = 35 m ————— (1)
40 m = u + a(9)/2
u + 4.5a = 40 m ————— (2)
Subtracting (1) from (2),
a = 5 m/s².
Hence,
u = 17.5 m/s.
