a bird moves in such a way that it has a displacement of 12m towards east 5m towards north and 9m verticaly upwards find the magnitude of its displacement

To find the magnitude of displacement..

1) consider the axis, it follows..

=> 12 m on x - axis

=> 5 m on y - axis

=> 9 m on z - axis.

Now since the angle in each case made is 90° with other respective axis.

So..

Magnitude of displacement will be

 =  > |a|   =   \bf\sqrt{ {x}^{2} +  {y}^{2}  +  {z}^{2}  }  \\  \\ =  >  |a|  =  \sqrt{ {12}^{2}  +  {9}^{2}  +  {5}^{2} }   \\  \\   \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  =  \sqrt{144 + 81 + 25}  =  \sqrt{250}  \\  \\   \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:   = 5 \sqrt{10}  \:  \: m
