The displacement for the bird is (2) zero m.

  • Displacement is defined as the absolute distance or straight path distance from the initial position to the final position.
  • If say an object moved 2 m west and then 4 m north then the distance, in this case, will be (2+4)=6m but the displacement here will be \sqrt{2^2+4^2}=root20.
  • Similarly if an object travelled any distance from the initial position to the final position but it came back to where it was then the displacement is counted as 0.
  • Hence, in this case, the bird also did the same so the displacement is 0 and the correct option is (2).
