Let total number of birds = x = ?
Also suppose that,
Number of sparrows = S
Number of pigeons = P
Number of ducks = D
According to the question,
All sparrows but 6 ⇒ S = x - 6
All pigeons but 6 ⇒ P = x - 6
All ducks but 6 ⇒ D = x - 6
Now,
Total No. of birds = S + P + D
x = S + P + D
x = (x - 6) + (x - 6) + (x - 6)
x = x - 6 + x - 6 + x - 6
x = 3x - 18
3x - x = 18
2x = 18
x = 9
which shows that the total number of birds are 9
Hope it will help you.
Thanks.
