The forces acting on a body on an inclined plane are:
1. Weight of the body - This one acts vertically downwards.
2. Surface reaction - This one acts perpendicular to the plane.
3. Friction - It acts opposite to the direction of motion.
A body resting on a plane inclined at an angle Ф to a horizontal plane is in an equilibrium state when the gravitational force that causes the body to slide down the plane acting on it is balanced by an equal and opposite frictional force that is acting upward the plane in the direction opposite to the motion of the object.
