A block of wood of mass 5kg is suspended by a thread a gun is fired in the horizontal direction and the bullet strikes the block and is embedded in it as a result the block is raised 15 cm if the mass of the bullet is 20g find the initial velocity of the bullet

mb = 20g = 20/1000 = 0.02 Kg

Aswe know that

K.E = P.E

1/2mV^2 = mgh

V = √2gh

V = √2 x 10 x 0.15

V =1.7146 m/s

Momentum => P = mv

                    mu = (m+m)v

                   0.02 x u = 5.02 x 1.715

                    u = 430 m/s

The initial velocity of the bullet is  430 m/s.
