A block of wood remains stationary even though force is being exerted on it from both sides, why?​

The answer is in your question only , you are putting force form both sides

  1. The force form both the sides are cancelling each other , only if the forces are equal
  2. If the forces are not equal , then another possibility is , the force is not more than the frictional force between the wood and the ground
