Step-by-step explanation:

A boat can travel 6.5 km upstream in 26 minutes. It can travel 7.5 km in 15 minutes What is the speed of the boat in still water? (in kmph)

  • Let the speed of the boat in still water be x and speed of the stream be y
  • Now speed of boat in upstream will be 6.5 (x – y) and speed of boat in downstream will be 7.5 (x + y)
  • Now we have the equations
  • 6.5 (x – y) = 26
  • 7.5 (x + y) = 15
  • (x – y) = 26/6.5
  • (x + y) = 15/7.5
  • So (x – y) = 4
  •     (x + y) = 2
  •    2x = 6
  • Or  x = 3

Therefore speed of boat in still water is 3 km/hr

(Upstream speed should be lower than downstream speed so question should be corrected)
