Explanation:

Let the speed of the boat be x km/hr and speed of current be ykm/hr

speed of the boat downstream= (x+y)

speed of the boat upstream = (x-y)

Therefore,

  • x+y =30/6 -1
  • x-y 18/6. -2

Adding equation (1) and(2), we get

  • x+y+(x-y)= 5+3
  • 2x =8
  • x=4

Substituting the value of hh : x

  • 4+y=5
  • y=5-4=1
