Let, speed of boat =x km/h
And, distance covered by boat =y km
Downstream speed=(x+3)km/h
Upstream speed=(x-3) km/h

Y/x-3=6
Y=6x-18-----------1

Y/x+3=4
Y=4x+12-----------2
Equating 1 and 2
4x+12=6x+-18
2x=30
X=15
Speed of boat =15 km/h
Putting value of x in equation 1 or
Y=4x+12
Y=4x15+12
Y=60+12
Y=72
Distance = 72 km
