a body accelerates uniformly from rest to 20 m/s for 4 sec, then moves with same velocity for the next 6 sec, after this it retards to come to rest in 2 sec.
(a) Draw velocity-time graph for the motion and form it.
(b) Find the total distance covered by the body.

The image below contains the graph of the motion of the body.

The area under the graph gives the distance.

The area is a trapezium.

Formulae for getting area of a trapezium :

(a+b) /2 × h

a=6s
b=12s
h=20m/s

A=(6+12)/2 ×20

9×20=180m

180m
