Average velocity is the average value of the given velocities. Average velocity is displacement over total time. The average speed of an object is defined as the distance traveled divided by the time elapsed. Velocity is a vector quantity and average velocity can be defined as the displacement divided by the time.


Average velocity = Total displacement/Total time taken


Total displacement = 40 m + 80 m = 120 m


Total time taken = 20 seconds + 20 seconds = 40 seconds


Average velocity = 120/40


= 3 m/s
