Let total distance be 2x meters
For the first half
d1 = x metres
s1 = 6 m/s
t1 = d1/s1 = x/6 s
For the second half
d2 = x metres
s2 = 4 m/s
t2 = d2/s2 = x/4 s
Now,
Average speed = Total distance travelled / Total time
= 2x m/ (x/6 + x/4)s
= 2x / 5x/12 m/s
= 4.8 m/s
For the first half
d1 = x metres
s1 = 6 m/s
t1 = d1/s1 = x/6 s
For the second half
d2 = x metres
s2 = 4 m/s
t2 = d2/s2 = x/4 s
Now,
Average speed = Total distance travelled / Total time
= 2x m/ (x/6 + x/4)s
= 2x / 5x/12 m/s
= 4.8 m/s
