The kinematic equation for a freely falling body is :
V = u - gt
Where V is the final velocity
u is the initial velocity
g is the acceleration due to gravity
t is the time taken for the free fall
For a freely falling body the acceleration is negative and also the final speed.
The negative sign indicates a downward fall.
g = 9.8m/s²
u= 0
t = 10
Substituting this in the equation :
V = 0 - 9.8 × 10 = - 98m/s
The negative sign indicates a downward movement.
The final velocity or rather the average velocity is 98m/s.

I think, the nehative sign is uaed when the body is thrown upwards, because it is thrown against the gravitation. But in the case of free fall the body is along the gravitation thus there will be no negative sign.

☆Hello Dear.☆
☆Here is the Answer.☆
Given conditions---
Time (t) = 10 seconds.
Using the equation of the motions for the freely falling objects,
v - u = gt
g = acceleration due to gravity
= 10 m/s^2
v = Final Velocity
u = Initial Velocity
= 0
(Since the body starts from the rest freely from the height)
Putting these values in the equations,
We get,
v - 0 = 10 × 10
v = 100 m/s.
Thus, the average velocity of the freely falling objects is 100 m/s.
☆Hope it helps.☆
