Part outside water = 40%
= 2/5
Part immersed in water = 60%
= 3/5
According to the Floatation principle,
v/V = density of substance/density of liquid
= 3/5 = x/1
= 0.6 g/cc = x = Density of the substance
Now, in oil,
Part outside = 60% or, 3/5
Part immersed = 40% or, 2/5
So,
Taking oil Density as x g/cc,
2/5 = 0.6/x
2x = 3
= x = 1.5 g/cc
Oil Density is 1.5 g/cc.
