As we all know that west is opposite to east

And, However displacement is a vector quantity so it considers the directions

Then the displacement will be 200 km - 30 km = 170 km

As 30 km is opposite to 200 km east So we take negative sign for 30 km

But if we will be asked for the distance it will be 200 km + 30 km as distance is a scalar quantity and it does not have any direction
