a body moves with a uniform velocity of 5m/s from a point. From the same point at the same time another body starts from rest and moves with uniform acceleration 2ms-2 in the same direction. When and where do they meet?

let the two bodies meet after time "t"

consider the motion of first body

X₁ = distance traveled by the first body

v₁ = velocity of the first body = 5 m/s

t = time of travel

distance traveled by the first body is given as

X₁ = v₁ t

X₁ = 5 t                        eq-1

consider the motion of second body

X₂ = distance traveled by the first body

v₂ = velocity of the second body = 0 m/s

a = acceleration of the second body = 2 m/s²

t = time of travel

distance traveled by the second body is given as

X₂ = v₂ t + (0.5) a t²

X₂ = 0 t + (0.5) (2) t²

X₂ = t²                                      eq-2

for the two bodies to meet

X₁ = X₂

5t = t²

t = 5 sec

so they meet after 5 sec

using eq-1

X₁ = 5 t

X₁ = 5 x 5 = 25 m

they meet after travelling 25 m
