A body of mass 10 kg and velocity 10 m/s collides with a stationary body of mass 5 kg. After collision, both bodies
stick to each other. The common velocity would be

Answer :

Mass of body A = 10kg

Initial velocity of ball A = 10m/s

Mass of body B = 5kg

Initial velocity of ball B = zero

Both bodies stick to each other after collision. We have to find final velocity of the combination.

◈ As per law of conservation of linear momentum, linear momentum of system is conserved if net force acts on the system is zero.

Hence, Initial momentum of whole system will be equal to the final momentum of whole system.

⇒ m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = (m₁ + m₂)v

⇒ (10×10) + (5×0) = (10+5)v

⇒ 100 + 0 = 15v

⇒ v = 100/15

v = 20/3 m/s
