Given:-

  • mass of the body = 20kg
  • distance /height = 50cm = 0.5m
  • acceleration due to gravity (g) = 9.8m/s²

To find:-

  • amount of potential energy lost

Formula:-

\longrightarrow \underline{\boxed{\sf P.E = mgh}}

here,

  • P.E = potential energy
  • m = mass
  • g = acceleration due to gravity
  • h = height

Solution:-

\longrightarrow P.E = 20 × 9.8 × 0.5

\longrightarrow P.E = 98 J

Additional information:-

  • When An object is in rest, the energy posses by it is potential energy.

  • When the object is in motion, the energy posses by it is kinetic energy. It is calculated by the following formula:-

\longrightarrow \underline{\boxed{\sf K.E = \dfrac{1}{2}mv²}}

here,

  • K.E = kinetic energy
  • m = mass
  • v = velocity
