So, the loss in kinetic energy will be equal to the gain in the potential energy in the spring.

Therefore, 1/2 mv2 = 1/2 kx2

=>mv2 =kx2

=> k =mv2 /x2

=> k= 2kg *(10m/s) 2/(0.25m) 2

=> k=3200 N/m

Hence, the force constant of the spring is 3200 N /m
