by applying law of conservation of momentum,

mv =  m_{1} v_{1} +  m_{2} v_{2} \\  \frac{300}{1000}  \times 0 =  \frac{200}{1000}  \times 12 + \frac{100}{1000}x   \\ 0 = 2400 + 100x \\ x =  - 24m {s}^{ - 1}
