Considering positive direction upwards -
Thus,
T1− (m1+m2)g = (m1+m2)a
T1 = (m1+m2)g + (m1+m2)a
T1= (12+8)(2.2)+(12+8)(9.8)
T1 = 44 + 196
= 240 N
T2− (m2)g=(m2)a
T2=(m2)g+(m2)a
T2= (8)(2.2)+(8)(9.8)
