Answer:

The gravitational force on the body  due to the  earth at a height equal to half the radius of the  earth = 32N

Explanation:

Weight of body on the surface of the earth =mg=72N

Acceleration due to gravity at height h is

gh = GM / (R + h)² ⇒ 1

h = R / 2 (given)

substitute the value of h in the equation 1

gh = GM / (R + R/2)²

gh = 4/9 ( GM / R²)

∴ gh = 4/9 g           ( g =  GM / R²)

Gravitational force on body at height h is

F = mg

= m × 4/9 g

= 4/9 × mg

= 4/9 × 72

= 4 × 8

= 32N
